JOE ROCKET ALTER EGO JACKET

submitted by FrogBiker

I had earlier tried a Joe Rocket Phoenix jacket - twice. The first was a man's since initially there were no ladies sizes. I sold it without ever wearing it. The second was a ladies which I wore a couple of times but wasn't thrilled with the fit and feel.

When my son told me about the Joe Rocket Alter Ego jacket, I felt I had found the perfect solution for warmer weather three season riding. The Alter Ego has textile panels that zip off to expose mesh underneath. Across the top of the shoulder and down the elbow side of the arms, the textile portion remains to cover the armor. It comes with a back pack where you can store the rain liner or the textile panels. (more detailed photos). I often carried my fleece vest in the backpack which was strapped to the front of my luggage.

The jacket comes with a waterproof rain liner but initially the jacket worked well in light rain without it. After washing it wasn't near as water-resistant....but I washed with regular detergent. Treating it with Nikwax products would work much better. I bought the jacket large enough that I could layer a polar fleece jacket underneath, allowing the jacket to work in much cooler temps than it would without. The rain liner added another level of warmth when used on top of the fleece .

All in all, this jacket is so versatile that several other companies have copied it but I think the Joe Rocket is still the lowest priced. If you don't want a large choice in colors and want a good three-season jacket that is very versatile, you can't go wrong with this one.

A couple of sites that sell this are: NewEnough.com, Power Sports Network and Kneedraggers.

Thanks to FrogBiker for submitting this personal review. Froggi has been riding since the summer of 2002 and wonders why she waited so long to start. She currently rides a 2005 Softail® Deluxe.
